Sharks Release 30th Anniversary Jersey

Sharks Release 30th Anniversary Jersey

What we all thought was coming finally came today as the San Jose Sharks released their jersey commemorating the 30th anniversary.

When we spoke with Doug Bentz last January, he wouldn’t divulge specific details but insinuated that the original logo would return for the 30th anniversary. Just as they did for their 25th anniversary, these heritage beauties will be used for theme nights during next season.

We mocked up what an Adidas version of this jersey would look like last April during our warm-up jersey concept series. While we didn’t hit the nail square on the head, we came as close as possible. If you already have a 25th Anniversary jersey from Reebok, you will notice some slight differences when compared to the Adidas version.

25th vs 30th Anniversary San Jose Sharks jerseys

Obviously, the biggest noticeable difference is the neckline. Reebok tried to maintain the V style from the original 1991 jerseys while Adidas uses their crewneck design. You can also see the Adidas dimples in the shoulders. Of particular note, the circle fin logo patch is slightly smaller than the Reebok version, shrinking from 4″ to 3.75″. Both are still larger than the original 1991 version at 3.5″.

Also of note, the 25th version patch is completely embroidered while the 30th version is only embroidered on the portions that aren’t the teal base. The 30th also features a slightly larger outline.

Some fans have wondered if the Sharks are really going utilize 5 different jerseys over the course of a compacted schedule. There are the usual home and road jerseys, which Sharks President Jonathan Becher referred to as their base jerseys during our chat last month. Along with their black Stealth jersey, the Sharks now have a 30th Anniversary heritage and their Retro Reverse jersey. Even though Becher cheekily hinted that the Sharks may have even more, I would actually bet it’s more likely the Stealth jerseys go on hiatus for the upcoming season and the Sharks only roll with 4 during the 2020-2021 season.

NOTE: If you plan to purchase a custom Fanatics-branded jersey at the Sharks Store at SAP Center, we are hearing rumors that the naming and numbering kits will be from the current jersey stock and not in the heritage font.

The Sharks also released their 30th anniversary logo after teasing fans with it in social media videos from new Sharks, Ryan Donato and Devan Dubnyk. You can read more about how the Sharks will Commemorate 30th Anniversary Season on their website, including:

  • A celebration of teams from the 90’s, 00’s and 10’s that highlight the greatest Sharks players from each decade.
  • 30th Anniversary Video Content Series featuring content and highlights from the team’s history.
  • Activations with fan-favorite Sharks players from throughout the team’s existence.
  • More content celebrating the team’s history.

But wait, there’s more!

While you can pick up the new 30th heritage and retro reverse jerseys at SanJoseSharksMobileShop.com and SJTeamShop.com,  you may find even more merchandise featuring the original logo, such as the hoodie below, if you visit the store at SAP Center or the Pro Shop at Solar4America Ice.
