Recapping the Sharks 2018 Draft

Linus Karlsson – Center

Selected: Round 3 (#87th Overall)

Shoots: Right

Height: 6’1″

Weight: 179 lbs.

Country: Sweden

Current Team: Karlskrona HK (SuperElit)

Scouts Say:

Good size and goal-scoring ability. Has fine hands and overall offensive skills. Very good hockey sense and great character. (EP 2018)

Nice shot and combines that with his ability to read developing holes in the offensive zone.. quality game from faceoff dots to end-boards, Draftin Europe 2018

Through and through your typical Sharks draft pick. Yes, he is off the board at 87 and the Sharks likely could have had him without moving. Once you get past that though this is still an intriguing pick. The point totals in the top Swedish Jr. league (SuperElit) are pretty good. He was the second-leading scorer in the league behind Jonatan Berggren (2nd Round 33rd overall). Unlike Berggren, though he did not see any international tournament action. The real test for Karlsson will the adjustments he makes to his game when he gets opportunities to play in the SHL.

Ian’s Grade: C+

I would have probably graded this pick higher if the Sharks didn’t make the likely unnecessary move up to take him.
