Martin Kaut – Right Wing

Weight: 175 lbs.

Country: Czech Republic

Current Team: HC Dynamo Pardubice (Czech Extraliga)

Scouts Say: This is a player with excellent passing ability and an above average shooter. He also plays a defensively sound game and skates very well and is strong on the puck even though he is on the smaller size. There are concerns though that while he is strong at defending the puck he does not play an overly physical game. His lack of physicality and a need to grow more into is frame will be key to a transition to the North American game. Although it should be noted that playing with and against men in the Czech Republic is a great sign. He also has some consistency concerns as well but has a very high ceiling and decent floor.

Ian’s Thought’s

After a poor showing at the Five Nations Tournament this year, Martin Kaut made the most of his remaining draft year. Kaut really broke out at the World Jr. Championships this year U-20 putting himself on the radar of many scouts. He followed this performance up by making the national team for the Czech Republic later in the year at the World Championships. In both tournaments, he showed off his excellent playmaking abilities. The idea that the Sharks could take Kaut if he is on the board at 21 is not outlandish at all.
