Felix’s Hockey Takes: State of the San Jose Sharks Franchise

The Future of This Franchise

It’s been mentioned multiple times now, but Doug Wilson overestimated the prospects in the preseason. That, to me, was always concerning because the Sharks don’t have much depth in the first place, especially after letting Pavelski, Joonas Donskoi, and Gustav Nyquist walk in free agency.

I feel like one thing is certain at the trade deadline. Someone will get moved by late February. The Sharks don’t have much in trade assets, but as I’ve said before, Wilson has a responsibility to keep this team competitive. So, he needs to try out anything he can at this point. On that same token, his time managing this team may finally be drawing to a close, so he knows he has to do something to appease the fans (and Hasso Plattner).

That being said, the Sharks don’t have a number one pick this year. Insert upside down smile emoji.
