Felix’s Hockey Takes: State of the San Jose Sharks Franchise

Final Thoughts

In the end, whatever happens to this team is at the hands of Doug Wilson. It should be interesting to see what he does at the trade deadline and in the offseason, should he still remain at the helm this offseason.

However, before then, the more I watch this team, the more I get this feeling that this team is caught in between being more than talented enough to be where they are, but also not having enough talent. They don’t have enough depth up front. The defensive holes are more glaring than ever. The guys that are getting paid much more than they should aren’t even close to earning their paychecks. There are multiple players in that locker room that need to step up, including Logan. One of the few only bright spots has been Mario Ferraro, who’s played really well and made damn sure he learns from his mistakes. The question is can the others follow suit? And will they?

Since the coaching changes, Dell has played much better under Nabby’s guidance. Jones has been better as well. Bob Boughner, at this point, is just trying to create a goaltending competition in net to try and make this sinking ship stay afloat for as long as he can. Quite honestly, we don’t even know if either of these goalies will still be on the team next season.

Lastly, Doug Wilson has a lot to answer for. There are just too many question marks on this team that it’s concerning. I’m curious to see where this franchise stands later in the not-so-distant future. We know this franchise is going to be headed for a rebuild soon. It needs a rebuild, but are they prepared for one? That being said, I’m kind of scared to see what it’ll be like without Jumbo. Can this team pull itself together, or are we in for more pain than we ever thought?

No matter what happens, I’ll always be a diehard Sharks fan through-and-through. This franchise has gone through many ups and downs. I’ve had my fair share with this team, going back to my most vivid memories in 2011. They’ve had some real good highs, and some really bad lows. Where they’re at right now takes the cake. But I’m ready for the impending rebuild. I’m cautiously optimistic about how this organization is going to handle their prospects moving forward, as well as picking their draft picks when Wilson somehow recoups them this year.

Needless to say, this has been a very trying season, Sharks fans. But we will pull through somehow. We will pull through, and I say that because we have to. I have to, for the sake of my sanity.
